Waiting on Wednesday / WWW Wednesday 05/02/2014

“Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme hosted at Breaking the Spine that spotlights eagerly anticipated upcoming releases.

In Chaucer’s London, betrayal, murder and intrigue swirl around the existence of a prophetic book that foretells the deaths of England’s kings. A Burnable Book is an irresistible thriller, reminiscent of classics like An Instance of the Fingerpost, The Name of the Rose and The Crimson Petal and the White.

London, 1385. Surrounded by ruthless courtiers—including his powerful uncle, John of Gaunt, and Gaunt’s flamboyant mistress, Katherine Swynford—England’s young, still untested king, Richard II, is in mortal peril, and the danger is only beginning. Songs are heard across London—catchy verses said to originate from an
ancient book that prophesies the end of England’s kings—and among the book’s predictions is Richard’s assassination. Only a few powerful men know that the cryptic lines derive from a “burnable book,” a seditious work that threatens the stability of the realm. To find the manuscript, wily bureaucrat Geoffrey Chaucer turns to fellow poet John Gower, a professional trader in information with connections high and low.

Gower discovers that the book and incriminating evidence about its author have fallen into the unwitting hands of innocents, who will be drawn into a labyrinthine conspiracy that reaches from the king’s court to London’s slums and stews--and potentially implicates his own son. As the intrigue deepens, it becomes clear that Gower, a man with secrets of his own, may be the last hope to save a king from a terrible fate.

Medieval scholar Bruce Holsinger draws on his vast knowledge of the period to add colorful, authentic detail—on everything from poetry and bookbinding to court intrigues and brothels—to this highly entertaining and brilliantly constructed epic literary mystery that brings medieval England gloriously to life.

A good historical novel set in the Middle Ages and that promises intrigue and suspense? Color me hyped!

What are you currently reading? Actually, I'm not reading anything right now.

What did you recently read? I just finished reading "The Chaos of Stars" by Kiersten White and "The Opposite of Magic"by Colleen Cowley. One of them was really good, the other was really bad. You'll find out which is which soon enough.
What will you be reading next? I am not sure. I want to read "The Golem and the Jinni" by Helene Wecker, but I'm considering reading something a bit lighter first. If you've got suggestions, I would love to hear them!

What are you currently reading? I'm halfway through"The Shadowhunter's Codex" by Cassandra Clare and Joshua Lewis and I about forty percent into "Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald" by Therese Ann Fowler, which I bough on a whim and is actually really good.

What did you recently read? I actually haven't finished anything since last week (shame on me), since I spent most of my free time looking for Christmas presents.

What will you be reading next? I got a book for Christmas, which I actually wasn't expecting, it's been such a long time since anyone has gotten me a book, so I'll read that one next. It's a volume with the first two books of "1Q84" by Haruki Murakami.

So what's your WWW for this week? Let me know in the comments!
Merry Christmas, if you celebrate it, and if you don't, I wish you a lovely day!

What did you recently read? "Catching Fire", it was about time I read it, so in honor of the film release, I finally pushed past the first few chapters. I'll post a review in the next couple of days.

What will you be reading next? "The Naturals" by Jennifer Lynn Barnes has been on my TBR list for ages, and I really want to read "Chaos of Stars" by Kieresten White.

What will you be reading next? "The Naturals" by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I want to check out "Adamant" by Kieran Wisser, mostly because I'm on a mythology withdrawal now that I'm done with "Heroes of Olympus", and this book sounded fun.

What are you currently reading? I'm reading "The Twilight Swimmer" by A.C. Kavich and "Eleanor and Park" by Rainbow Rowell. I'm enjoying both for now, but I'm not that far into "The Twilight Swimmer" yet.

What did you recently read? "Allegiant" by Veronica Roth, which I hated, and the "Son of Neptune" by Rick Riordan which was pretty good.

What will you be reading next? "The Mark of Athena" by Rick Riordan and "The Naturals" by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.

What are you currently reading? Allegiant, finally! I've bought it yesterday and I've only had the time to read a couple of pages, but I'm so excited! I hope it'll be awesome!

What did you recently read? I finally finished Unearthly. I'll write a review in the next couple of days.

What will you be reading next? I'm going to read "The Eye of Minds" by James Dashner and "Unbreakable" by Kimi Garcia, which are both on my top ten most awaited releases for this fall. I also want to read "The Son of Neptune", by Rick Riordan.

What are you currently reading? Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. I'm reading it at a snail pace, but I've gotten to the point where there's actual plot, so I'll probably read faster now.

What did you recently read? The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, which is wonderful,  and Stupid Perfect World by Scott Westerfeld, which was pretty cool.

What will you be reading next? Allegiant by Veronica Roth finally came out yesterday, so I'll read it as soon as I'm done with Unearthly.

What are you currently reading? "Unearthly" by Cynthia Hand. I like it, but the main character said her physical faults were a) being to tall and skinny and b) her eyes are too big, which is kinda off-putting. I feel a Mary Sue coming up.

What did you recently read? "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman, which was awesome, and Oath of Servitude by C.E. Wilson.

What will you be reading next? Where do I start? As soon as I have the time, I'll read "The Eye of Minds" by James Dashner and "Unbreakable" by Kimi Garcia, which are both on my top ten most awaited releases for this fall. I also want to read "The Ocean at the End of the Lane" by Neil Gaiman.

What are you currently reading? Oath of Servitude, by C.E. Wilson and Unearthly, by Cynthia Hand. I'm liking them both, tough I'm just on chapter three of Unearthly, so it's a bit early to tell wether it'll be good or not.

What did you recently read? haven't finished anything since Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, tough I've given up on Obisidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout since then.

What will you be reading next? Two books on my Top Ten Can't Wait for Books list, Unbreakable by Kimi Garcia and The Eye of Minds by James Dashner came out, so I'll read them.

What did you recently finish reading? Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell, and I loved it.

What are you currently reading? I'm reading Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell and I'm really, really, really liking it. Too bad I have to put it down from time to time, for pesky, petty little things like you know, sleep.
What did you recently finish reading? Clockwork Scarab, by Colleen Gleason, which was alright, I guess. I enjoyed it, but it pales in comparison to Fangirl. I'll post the review later today.
What will you be reading next? Likely Obsidian, by Jennifer L. Armentrout: a friend of mine recommended it and it's been on my TBR pile for a while.
